The Rheingans Sisters

rheingans.webp

Rowan and Anna Rheingans grew up in an environment surrounded by traditional music. They were encouraged to play the fiddle by their musician mother and violin-maker father. Rowan is, of course, renowned on the English folk scene as part of Lady Maisery as well as for her work with Nancy Kerr & The Sweet Visitor Band, and the Songs of Separation supergroup.

Influenced as ever by the past, The Rheingans Sisters’ music leans defiantly forward. Their music blends century-old recordings of Norwegian fiddlers, songs in the ancient Occitan language and true stories from the Northern Irish Civil Rights movement with future imaginings, dystopias and dreams.

With the warmth and empathy their songwriting has become well known for, added to raw textures of fiddles, feet and medieval bass drones, The Rheingans Sisters are one of the most visionary acts on the British folk scene today. Their songs grow more radical and uncompromising with each album release, making theirs a powerful voice for our turbulent times.
