Miles & Matthews
Chris is a superb Scottish singer from Fife, with a great voice and a large repertoire of songs. Of the Folk Revival generation, Chris Miles has sung since childhood, but performing came later than for many of her contemporaries. Persuaded to do a 'floor spot' at Kirkcaldy Folk Club in 1985 brought her to attention and she soon joined the ranks of well-regarded traditional singers, winning most of the silver cups in the 1980s. Astonished to be offered money to sing at a club, she reluctantly agreed, and that was that. In the past she sang with her contemporaries Aileen Carr and the late Gordeanna McCulloch and Maureen Jelks as Palaver, as well as in a duo with Gordeanna, while continuing to perform solo. In recent years she has been accompanied by Gearaidh Matthews, an excellent guitarist from Drogheda in Ireland. In 2022 they toured the US for five weeks, delighting American aficionados of traditional ballads and songs.
